Uh Oh! Target Sued Over Phony Coach Handbag

clock October 6, 2009 12:33 by author Lanna Lee

The popular designer Coach has accused Target of copying their handbags in a lawsuit filed Friday. Allegedly, the purse bears the signature "C" trademark in the design as well as other characteristics. Take a look at the picture in the above link and judge for yourself. It looks like the signature C to me! Coach is seeking one million dollars for trademark infringement! You can't mess with these big designers. That's why we sell products labeled only as "Designer Inspired" purses that do not claim to be a replica or fake handbag. It is a unique design that does not try to copy the designer, yet it can be said that is was inspired by popular handbags of the time.

This is not the first time Target has been accused of copying designs. Coach and Target have tangled over this issue before in 2006. Earlier this year, Wal-Mart was accused of copying a Fendi design. My personal opinion is that designer handbags are overpriced and discount retailers like Target and Walmart know they can get some business by selling look-alikes. They are a fraction of the price and people these days just can't afford designer prices.

Luxury can be affordable if you buy smart. Check out our collection of designer inspired handbags at www.handbagbug.com and you can get a great deal. Our handbags also don't claim to be something they aren't, so you can buy with confidence from a company with ethics.

Fall 2009 Handbag Trends

clock September 2, 2009 09:01 by author Lanna Lee

At handbagbug.com we have this season's hottest fall handbags for you to choose from. Whether you enjoy embracing the latest trends in fashion or not, you will benefit from choosing your pieces wisely. Whether you are the type of person who loves to buy the latest trendy item or prefer to make your choices based on what strikes you, our fall collection of handbags will make you happy. According to many expert articles and my research, there are a few key things you should look for in your fall purse purchases this year.

This season is all about structure. Get a structured satchel that holds its shape and you will have a classic handbag that will stand the test of time. Our satchel with pocket accents is a perfect example of structure and style. It also has the metal studs that are hot for fall, and it comes in 2 great fall colors.

Another hot tip is to look for texture in your handbags. Faux snake skin or crocodile skin (croco) is very appealing. Clutches are also in style and will likely stay that way for a long time. Try out our faux croco clutch and you'll have both trends covered. I actually have that clutch and I use it often. It's extremely roomy.

Color is also a fall trend indicator - jewel tones just scream fall like purples, oranges, and reds. Red handbags and purses in particular are gaining popularity for your fall purse choice.

Finally, embellishments are big. Whether we are talking about metal studs, tassles, designwork, jewels, rhinestone accents, or metallic hardware - they are all fashionable. Get a purse with bold jewels, crystals, or metallic hardware and you're all set! Lucky for you, we have a few choices of embellishments - like our handbag with stone accents which is also made of faux ostrich leather and comes in red, orange, or green; or our slouchy hobo handbag with metallic accents which has these great metallic "hinges" on the sides of the purse.

Whatever you choose, if you are shopping at handbagbug.com you are sure to be trendy, in style and fashionable since we hand-pick only the best for you. We're currently running a Labor Day special but you must act fast! Get 10% off your first order of $25 or more through Labor Day if you use the coupon code WELCOME10.

Isis II Flip Flops - Product Review

clock August 30, 2009 08:59 by author Lanna Lee

I happen to love flip flops and sandals so much that I wear them year-round. Luckily I live in the South where winter is not unbearable and on some days I can still sneak in a pair of flip flops. So that's why I'm reviewing another pair of sandals - the Isis II Flip Flops from www.mynewshoe.com.

When I first got these shoes in, I am going to be completely honest: I couldn't believe how light they were. I didn't realize the bottom part was completely made of foam. I bet they would float if immersed in water! I have to admit I was skeptical about wearing these out on vacation. "Would they hold up?" Well I'm back from the trip and the shoes are amazing. They were light on my feet and felt so comfortable throughout the entire night. They never bothered me or weighed me down. Not only were they comfortable, I got so many compliments on them. The sequins on the straps are shiny and pretty and the entire shoe is gold. The foam wedge heel is a little more "yellow gold". The intricate design on the soles of the shoe are beautiful, so your shoes look great even when they are off your feet.  :) This type of foam wedge heel flip flop goes well with skirts, sundresses, or jeans. I wore mine with a denim skirt that night, and I can't wait to wear them again! They retail for $14.99 with free shipping and we have sizes 5 though 11! The flip flops come in gold, silver, grey, pink, purple, blue, and orange. They would make great "spirit" shoes for example if you're a Florida gator fan - get a blue or orange pair and wear them for the game! LSU fans can wear purple, and Saints fans can wear gold!  :)

Rose Sandal - Product Review

clock August 12, 2009 19:23 by author Lanna Lee

I promised I would write reviews if my husband let me buy some shoes, so I guess I have to live up to the promise! I just received my shoes a few days ago and I couldn't be more excited. I mean, what girl doesn't love shoes? I was so happy with my purchases. I decided to start out the reviews with my absolute favorite shoe so far - the Rose sandal by Max Collection. I"ll start out with the product description:

"Never be a wallflower when you can be a Rose. Designer style wedge flip flops with decorative stones and a 1 1/2 inch wedge make this shoe a sexy addition to any wardrobe, from blue jeans to that little black dress. These flip flop sandals come in a variety of different colors and are elegant and versatile, yet affordable. The gold sandal is a favorite item and match well with a variety of outfits since gold metallic sandals are so versatile. This thong sandal is definitely a woman's best friend. Three straps cross the foot and intertwine down the middle with three decorative stones that match the shoe color. These shoes are comfortable and the wedge heel give it an upgrade from the run-of-the mill flip flop into a classy womens sandal."

I love the 1 1/2 inch wedge heel. I have the gold sandal, and the heel is a pretty bronze color that matches well. There is a bit of padding throughout the shoe and so far it is very comfortable. There are three straps across the base of the foot that come together to form a braided decorative embellishment leading down to the thong part (the part that goes between your toes). On the braided section are 3 jeweled stones. On my shoe, the stones are yellow/gold since the shoe is gold. Each shoe will have a matching jewel color. This is a nice decorative touch and really make the sandal seem dressier than it really is. I love gold flip flops and sandals in general, but this one exceeds my expectations. The gold color is perfect, not too "yellowey". It currenty sells for $17.99 on www.mynewshoe.com and I think it's well worth it - especially since it's free shipping and no tax (if you live outside of Georgia).

I will be wearing my gold metallic sandals this weekend on vacation with some friends for a Bachelorette Party. We are having a Saints theme night, and we will wear black & gold when we go bar hopping. Hopefully I will get lots of nice comments on my new gold shoes and I'll report back on if they are comfortable and last me through the night!  :)

Don't Forget About Mom!

clock May 7, 2009 06:35 by author Lanna Lee

Mother's Day is this Sunday and it's not too late to get her a gift she will love. Check out our new category of Mother's Day Items. We picked out these purses especially for Mom and we're sure you will find something she loves. We are also having a big sitewide Mother's Day Sale! Get 10% off your order when you use the coupon code ILUVMOM at checkout. But hurry, this ends on Friday! If you buy a handbag from our already reduced handbags on sale, you still get 10% off! It's a great time to buy at handbagbug.com!

We recently got some nifty new handbag accessories in stock. The purse key clip is my favorite item. You clip your keys to one end and hang your keys inside your purse with the pretty embellished symbol facing outward. See the picture below - it's hard to explain. But once you realize that you will never lose your keys inside your purse again, you will love this little accessory!

See how the little blue flower is hanging outside the purse? The keys are attached to that, but hanging INSIDE your purse! So cute, right?

How to Have Spring Style in the Face of a Recession

clock April 7, 2009 10:16 by author Lanna Lee

My philosophy on the current state of the economy is - JUST SHUT UP ALREADY!!! Ever heard the phrase "perception is reality"?? It's my personal belief that it does no good to hear about the current state of dismal affairs day in and day out from the media. It wears on you. It freaks you out unneccessarily. Just get out there and live your life anyway and you'll survive. Don't listen to those that say we're doomed. Anyway, to step off the sopabox and bring the subject back to purses, you don't have to sacrifice  style this spring just because of the recession. A well made, classic handbag with a few new embellishments for spring will stick with you and be a good investment in your personal sense of style. As this article from the London Free Press so aptly states, "The recession may dampen demands for pricey status handbags, but a new purse can still be one of the easiest and least expensive ways to update your spring style."

We are seeing a lot of color this spring. The Easter season inevitably brings on the pastels. Check out this giraffe print satchel with green trim. It is just the right amount of lime green to make the entire purse POP and look really great. Another fun color this spring is fuschia. Try it out on this giraffe print purse with fuschia trim. Another good thing about both of these bags is that they are multi-functional. The satchel in particular is large enough to use as a tote bag, travel bag, or even a beach bag because the faux leather is easily cleaned.

Bold statements of color can be seen everywhere this season. If you like bright colors, you'll love our line of bright zebra print peace totes.

One of the best styles of handbag to get if you are concerned about staying power, is the hobo bag. The slouchy shape of the bag is always in style and will be a constant fashion DO. I even wrote my own blog post about Hobo Handbags.

Other styles on the DO list this Spring include bags with embellishments like fringes, tassles, and buckles, likes this leopard print purse with red tassle and this new giraffe print purse with buckle.

So hopefully I have given you enough tips so that you can still be fashionable this spring and not break the bank!

First I think we should address the question, "Is there a difference between a handbag and a purse? And what about all the other types of purses out there - clutches, satchels, totes... what does all of it mean?" A lot of the facts out there are merely people's opinions. So I'll start with mine. I say the only difference between a handbag and a purse is the way you carry it. A handbag is more like a satchel, in that the straps are shorter and are not meant to hang from the shoulder. A purse has longer straps so that it hangs down almost to your waist. (These types of purses remind me of the older style that our mom's have.) But I do tend to use the word "purse" more often than handbag because I find that handbag is a newer term, and purse just rolls off the tongue.

But let's discuss what the so-called experts say about the difference between a handbag and a purse. When you search for "handbag" on Wikipedia, it actually re-routes you to the "purse" page. From Wikipedia:

In American English, a purse is a small bag, also called a handbag or a pocketbook.

In British English, a purse is a small money container similar to a wallet, but typically used by women and including a compartment for coins, with a handbag being considerably larger; indeed, a purse is often kept in a handbag.

A purse or handbag is often fashionably designed, typically used by women, and is used to hold items such as wallet, keys, tissues, makeup, a hairbrush, cellular device or personal digital assistant, feminine products, or other items.

In the early 1900s people began calling their bags "handbags". This term referred to luggage that men carried. They then inspired women, who began carrying bags with complicated fasteners, internal compartments, and locks. In the 1920s, it became popular that bags no longer had to match your outfit. In the 1940s, with WWII, women's purses were made out of wood or plastic since metal was being saved for supplies. In the 1950s, popular handbag designers included Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes. Today these three brands are still popular, along with Gucci, Christian Dior, Fendi, Prada, Kate Spade, and Lockheart among many others.

Types of handbags

* Clutch: Small, yet long (rectangular), evening bag without a handle.

* Satchel: large bag with small handle that is carried on the arm rather than on the shoulder.

* Duffle: A large bag usually used for travel or sports.

* Tote: A medium to large bag with two straps.

* Messenger bag : A bag with a long strap to be worn across the body.

* Sling bag : A bag with a long strap (similar to a messenger bag), yet smaller.

So see, even Wikpedia agrees with me. There's not much of a difference!

Here is an example of what I think is a handbag and a purse. Our designer inspired white handbag has shorter handles, making it the perfect "arm" bag. It is easily held on the arm, as opposed to up higher on the shoulder (though you can fit it up there too.) The giraffe print purse has slightly longer handles that you would definitely wear on your shoulder, hence we call it a purse.

I hope you've enjoyed this little lesson on the handbags vs purse subject!

Now let's talk about another specific type of purse - the hobo. No, silly, not the bums on the street - we're talking about the hobo handbag. A hobo bag is a style of purse characterized by its crescent shape and slouchy appearance. It actually did get its name from the appearance of the bags that homeless people used to carry slung over their shoulder tied to a stick. That's kind of sad, isn't it? But I digress. Hobos are one of my favorite types of bags and we have a lot of them to show you! We have a variety of handbags including giraffe print hobo purses and zebra print hobo handbags. These purses fit the description of a hobo because they are pretty large, have longer handles that you can sling over your shoulder, and have a general crescent shape. They are also more "slouchy" and don't have a defined shape. These hobo style bags are popular and never go out of style. Check out our selection at handbagbug.com!

Not only is the style or shape of the bag important, but so is the color or print. Get something in zebra print. Animal prints will never go out of style, especially if you stick with a classic one. Timeless black and white stripes are safe for years to come, so if you don't want to buy a new handbag every time the trends change, get a zebra print handbag or zebra print wallet and never worry about it again. Try zebra print with a splash of color to spice things up. We have a zebra print purse with pink handles, a zebra print wallet with red trim, one our zebra print peace totes that come in green, red, blue, or pink, or our Ed Hardy version zebra print tattoo bag. A lot of people shy away from animal print because they think it's too wild for them, but it doesn't have to be. Zebra print stripes are one of the safer patterns. Leopard prints might scream wild and crazy but zebra prints say "I know how to pick my animal print and look great!" Don't be afraid, be confident. Go forth and choose one of the many zebra prints from our site!
